Helvetica-less.

May 25, 2007 | 11:22 am

What the hell, the DC screening of Helvetica is sold out already? Tickets went on sale 2 freakin’ days ago :mad: I mean, it doesn’t actually say it’s sold out, but when I hit “calculate total” for 1 general admission ticket, it tells me to select a lower number of tickets. So yeah … meh. Maybe it’ll be out on DVD eventually? At least I’ll still be able to see the exhibit at MOMA for my birthday.

Stop trying to make my life “easier.”

February 9, 2007 | 12:00 pm

What the hell FrontPage. Don’t go automatically inserting height and width tags (which aren’t necessary) for the hundreds of images of the online journal, especially after I’ve spent forever making the site XHTML 1.1-compliant in Dreamweaver and helping the future online issue coders get away from evil tables and deprecated code *sigh* At least I had the articles all to myself for a couple months. I wonder how else FrontPage has decided to “fix” things for Nicole and whoever else has been editing …

Pet peeve #3958.

February 1, 2007 | 8:30 pm

I frickin’ hate it when stores completely rearrange their inventory in order to provide a “fresh” and “new” look for customers. Um, what the hell. It not only doesn’t do that for people who’ve been there more than once, but it confuses them out of their skull. I walked into CVS today looking for shampoo, and 3 strides in I realize that the aisles are different, and then that practically everything — including the freezers for refrigerated items — has been moved. It takes me 10 minutes to find what otherwise would’ve taken 2, and that made me slightly annoyed. When a place is organized in a specific way for the last 4 years I’ve been going there and I know where everything is, the last thing I want is to come in one day and fall over myself as I wander the aisles in a dazed state, trying to find what I need, and bitterly muttering why oh why oh why :mad:

Yeah, I really needed a lower GPA.

December 19, 2006 | 10:05 am

*sigh* Hate grades. I was doing fine until aesthetics … hate tests even more, since that was all the professor seemed to care about (no attendance policy, papers assigned, etc.). Yeah they were take-home and open-book except for the final, but even with those “perks” I never did well. I still can’t believe I got a D :mad: The only other classes that’s happened in were math and US history, which I’ve sucked at since the beginning of time — this is my first barely passing in an “art” course. It was more philosophy than art, which I’m also not good at, but still. Along with my other C (again, stupid tests … got As on every paper), B-, B, and A- grades, my dad’s gonna love knowing I went from needing a 0.1 to 0.4 GPA increase to reach the car-insurance-discount-acceptable 3.0.

WTF Apple.

September 13, 2006 | 10:30 am

Okay, someone explain why there was so much speculation on Monday about Apple’s whole “It’s Showtime” thing on Tuesday, yet nothing about what actually happened when I checked the news last night?

Furthermore, I just opened the iTunes Music Store to check out this week’s free songs, and bang, it looks completely different. New colors (blue), new layout, $9.99 movie downloads, and apparently iTunes 7 is released as well — could’ve fooled me. Whatever happened to iTunes frickin’ telling me when there’s an update? I had to accidentally view some TV show downloads to find out :mad:

Also, since when are there iPod games? I just noticed the little Music Store button today. Not like I can use them (they only work with 5G iPods — I have a 4G) and the $44 price tag is kinda high, but still — games on my iPod (and my phone for that matter) would be nice.

Edit: Just finished downloading iTunes 7. Um, yeah. New colors (more blue) and layout on that too. Is the pretty white/silver/gray motif gone for good? It looks cool and all, it’s just, wtf, usually there’s some kind of news/warning with this much change. Now it’s updating the album artwork on my 4,508 songs …

No more curl?

August 4, 2006 | 7:41 pm

Okay, whose genius idea was it to give a 403 error to anyone who uses the word “curl” in a post? I mean, I know why thanks to this thread, but come on. Banning a whole word from ever being used? I just tried to edit a post that had “curl” at the end, and ASO threw a fit (JVDS, my old host, didn’t seem to have a problem with it). I know it’s supposed to be “more secure” or whatever, and yeah there are ways around it (like using quotation marks or c<!-- -->url), but it’s still annoying :neutral:

Here’s what my host said:

Curl is a program on Unix that we block out from normal users. Often exploits in wordpress and other cms software have vulnerabilities, and to keep exploits from getting through and making use of certain programs they are filtered out. You can also put quotes around it, however that may look a little funny. I appologize for the inconvenience, but it is in place to keep the server safer from hackers.

Edit: I found a fix! Just put this in your .htaccess:

<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>

Rain rain go away.

June 26, 2006 | 7:02 pm

Wow I just wrote a lot of checks. Meh. I hate the end of the month … it always takes weeks for the checks to get where they’re going and clear, and I’m always on the edge of my seat to make sure that I have enough funds in my various places.

And it’s raining. For the 205829th time in the past, oh, 4 days? It sucks. What also sucks is how the rain seems to bring bad news … i.e. Lois’s niece ran away from home on Saturday and they have no idea where she is (she’s 16) … the road I’ve driven hundreds of time with the sharp turns yet never seen an accident on got one today … and the sticky flap of our utilities’ return envelopes decided, with all the moisture in the air, to glue themselves to the unpaid bills — yeah that’s gonna look nice to the companies/in my records :roll: The good news? Out of all the problems this house has, the basement doesn’t flood.

Tried Kroger’s self-checkout thingie today … it doesn’t suck as much as Giant’s, but maybe that’s just ’cause it’s a new voice.

Edit: Nevermind, I spoke too soon — the basement and yard flood. Woo hoo.
